The fifth thematic event Soil health from a forest land-use perspective, organised by Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), takes place on 25 January 2024 at 10:00 CET. It explicitly addresses two objectives of the EU Mission: A Soil Deal for Europe: prevent erosion and improve soil structure to enhance biodiversity.
We would like to initiate discussions about how the concepts of soil health and living labs could be understood and applied within forestry and across forested landscapes.
In this event, we will focus on:
how impacts of forestry on soils are intensified across geographical locations where soils become more susceptible to e.g. soil erosion in semi-arid and dry areas;
how to address the monitoring of soil indicators considering rotation periods (short 20-23 years vz long 50-70 years) and difference in forest management practices (mixed vegetation vz mono cultures).
