#Youth4Soil
“Young people have a crucial role to play in [scaling soil health] as well as in the development of sustainable policies and their implementation. Their involvement is essential for the success of the goals set for 2030 or 2050.”
About #Youth4Soil
CA4SH has a membership of over 250 public and private sector representatives, research institutions, non-governmental organizations, farmer organizations and cooperatives, and more, many of which are youth-led.
CA4SH launched the #Youth4Soil Initiative in 2024 to leverage this extensive partnership and highlight the important role that youth play in soil health advocacy and action
The initiative is fostering relationships between organizations, creating a network of youth advocates who are supported by the Coalition through skill building, professional counseling, networking, connecting youth with professional soil health advocates as mentors, and more.
Ways to engage:
-
The #Youth4Soil Working Group is elevating the voices of youth soil health advocates. By connecting youth through an integrated platform, we seek to unite their efforts with the support of a network of actors from across the global soil health ecosystem.
The working group meets regularly to collaborate on joint projects and is open to any youth advocates who want to join the global soil health movement.
-
Mentees are soil health advocates between the ages of 18 and 35 who are interested in developing their skills and capacity to advocate for soil health in their respective fields.
Mentees will:
Create a personal plan of action with mentors and develop an activity timeline
Be engaged to participate in speaking opportunities
Gather insights and lessons learned to inform learning notes, briefs and be engaged to contribute to CA4SH knowledge outputs
Advocate for global soil health and represent CA4SH
Mentors are professional people of any age working in the field of soil health through any sector or organization who are interested in supporting young professionals in developing soil health advocacy skills and capacities.
Mentors will:
Provide guidance and support to youth soil health advocates
Transmit their knowledge and experience to mentees in order to help them develop strategies for taking global action for soil health
Provide opportunities for growth and to expand their networks (e.g., speaking opportunities)
-
To share opportunities with the #Youth4Soil cohort (e.g., job postings, grants, funding), please reach out to communications@coalition4soilhealth.org to facilitate this!
-
Soil Health Solutions are tested methods for improving soil health in local contexts. This is an initiative of the #Youth4Soil Working Group, who are building an open library and community of practice to support farmers and land managers with information to scale soil health in their local environments.
