The new Soil Health Steering Committee jumpstarted action for soil in two October meetings

Soil Health Steering Committee members and CA4SH Secretariat during the 18 October meeting

On the 18th and 25th of October 2023, the CA4SH Soil Health Steering Committee met virtually to discuss the remit of the Committee and the future directions of the Coalition of Action 4 Soil Health (CA4SH).

The Steering Committee have set out several objectives that will guide their activities and action for healthy soil, with room to evolve alongside the growing CA4SH membership, which as reached over 160 members so far!

Objectives of the CA4SH Steering Group:

  • Provide guidance and strategic direction for CA4SH 

  • Help build strategic partnerships and identify opportunities for collaboration

  • Provide expert input to help achieve CA4SH’s four main goals 

  • Link to strategic fundraising opportunities 

  • Advocate for CA4SH’s mission 

  • Prioritize objectives and deliverables for the Thematic Working Groups 

  • Approve the annual report of the Coalition 

  • Meet bi-annually to discuss strategy and progress

During the inaugural meetings of the Steering Committee, members received an update from the CA4SH Secretariat, discussed the roles and responsibilities of the Committee, discussed the overall CA4SH strategy, shared updates for the upcoming UNFCCC COP28 in Dubai, and brainstormed strategic directions for the Coalition.

The next steps for the Committee are to review the points raised during the meetings, follow up on action points, and share contacts for expanding CA4SH’s reach and representation, including in the Committee itself. This multistakeholder group is enthusiastic about scaling soil health globally and we are grateful for their time and efforts to support CA4SH.
